magic jack and pc power consumption?
we were planning to get the magic jack internet phone system as our land line connection. But since the pc has to be turned on 24/7, how much power does it consume per month when the electricity bill is concerned?does it worth the money savings compared to other phone like vonage or comcast/att or whatever is out there including power consumption.
That is a good question! I love the math from the YA user above! I’d still say it was worth it, even when including the extra power consumption. If you got a long distance rate of $.10/minute on your regular land line, you’d only need to chat to a long distance friend for 60 minutes a month to recoup the cost of the extra power. Also, your land line might be $20-$30 per MONTH, while MJ is only $20 per YEAR. That’s a huge difference right there!
If your computer is not on, your calls go to voicemail. You could turn your computer off at night if you are concerned about electricity usage.
If considering replacing this as your land line, I hope that you still have a cell phone. In an emergency when you need to call 911, do you really want to wait for your computer to boot up? There are alot of pros and cons about the Magic Jack listed here:
