Sales tax on cell phones?
I buy a phone thats normally $169.99 on sale for $99. I have a $50 credit on towards a new phone. So my total cash outlay is about $49.
Why do they charge me sales tax based on the $169.99 ? ($15.29) Shouldn’t I pay sales tax on the amount I’m really paying($49) I’m wondering if Verizon turns the total over to the government or pays the amount they should have collected based on the actual sale?($4.41)
Are cell phones the only product that gets taxed at it’s MSRP no matter what it sells for? Imagen paying tax on the full price of every item you’ve ever bought on sale! This seems wrong. Who’s with me on this?
