Cell Phone Object Lesson

October 8th, 2009

If your toddler wants something that you are using, do you hand it over?

Examples include your cell phone, magazines, food you are eating, a toy if you are playing with the child, random household objects, etc. I have seen many parents do this. I wonder if they realize it, or if the parents I’ve seen are unusually soft. Do you think this teaches a good lesson?

Within reason yes. My kids get my old cell phone, and some random objects. They love to sit in the kitchen while I cook and stir a spoon in a big bowl.
I use these moments to teach, how to ask for things politely. How to be patient. How to be told no as well.
