Cell Phone Two Chips

I have an older cell (by a year), its in good shape, it doesn’t get abused…?
However, I can be talking with someone and it’ll have on the screen “Smart chip”, and my conversation will be cut right off! I was told that I should shut the phone off, so that it can sort of update itself? What do you think? Someone also told me that the phones are always up dating, and that they probably last roughly, about two years.
Of course you should. And it doesn’t matter if it’s old or new. When a computer starts acting up you just reboot it and the problem usually goes away, right? Same deal with the phone.
