Help me talk to my soldier!?
My husband left for Kuwait about 2 weeks ago.. ive been able to talk to him about 3 times total for about 20 minutes at a time. He bought a phone card there and he can call whenever he gets time. Today when i talked to him he told me to find a phone to send him.. Like a cell phone. He said some of his friends have phones they carry around with them and they get to call home whenever. I have been on the search for THE BEST communication with my husband over there since before he ever left. I’ve heard about Skype but the problem right now is that they have shitty wifi service. Please give me all the information you have about different kinds of communication with soliders in Iraq.. thank you so much for any of your help!!
If my information is correct, Skype is illegal in Kuwait and trying to access the site will not work.
If you buy a phone for your husband, you will need to buy an unlocked phone that uses a SIM chip because the phone service there is a SIM chip based service. There are Wataniya kiosks on the bases where he can buy more minutes, but technically he is supposed to have a Kuwait civil ID in order to buy a sim card.
If you send a phone that is activated in the US, the roaming charges are super high. AT&T works there, but is really expensive.
The rates on the phone cards he can use in the phone center is probably the best rate but not as convenient as being able to call when/where ever.
