Can I use my phone from the us in japan?

I use a japanese cell service AU Kiddi, which has a cdma sim
installed in the phone. I recently purchased the nokia 5610 which can be set
to umts or gsm or both. How ever it doesn’t seem to be picking up my AU
Kiddi sim? any help
