Which book is better, Cold Sassy Tree or Joy Luck Club?
My A.P english teacher is making everyone read a book over summer, but we only get to read a book thats on her list. I narrowed my choices down to Cold Sassy Tree and Joy Luck Club.
I need to know which book isn’t a huge snooze fest.
Also, We are considering buying an Ipad and I know you can put books on it and stuff, but I am wondering if my teacher will be mad if i show up the first day and dont have a book, but since most people will just be renting books from the library they wont have one ethier…..but I need to know if i could be in trouble for reading it..not in…book form.
I’ve read Joy Luck Club in school, and I wasn’t such a fan of it. My Asian friends (for the most part) really loved it and connected to it, but I didn’t think it was so great (I’m not Asian). My biggest problem with it was that there was a lot of really obvious, occasionally corny symbolism – in one part of the book, one of the women goes on about how she’s like the wind, because she is strong and mighty and a force to be reckoned with, yet she herself isn’t seen, only the effects of what she does can be. Another problem I had with it was that I found it to be very confusing. The book is about 4 daughters and their mothers, and I found it really hard to keep track of who was who. I haven’t actually read Cold Sassy Tree, so I can’t help you there…
I don’t see why it would be a problem reading a book on your iPad. It’s the same words, just on a screen instead of on paper…
