Can i take an ipad on an LDS mission?

I am getting an ipad in the next few weeks from my work, we just won an award, and they are rewarding us by getting all the employees an ipad. Thing is, is that i am going to go on an LDS mission in 1-3 months so, i am wondering if you are allowed to take them with you, since you can put scriptures and many church tools and keep organized with it. If not i will have to lock it away for two years! Thanks!

No, I’m afraid the only technology you can bring is a music player and an alarm clock, really (if the rules haven’t changed recently). Oh, and a camera. You will have your hard copy set of scriptures and a couple of other specified books if you choose. For organizing purposes, you will have a 6-week daily planner (a new one every 6 weeks) and will be taught exactly how to plan, organize, set goals, etc., with that planner. The only technology you will be given is a cell phone. One is assigned to every companionship, or at least that’s how my mission was.

I would encourage you to buy a Missionary Handbook and a Daily Planner (oh, and a Preach My Gospel if you don’t have one already) from your local Distribution Center or LDS bookstore just to familiarize yourself with what is ahead of you.

P.S. Don’t worry if the rules sound really rigid. They all exist for a reason, and when you get out there, you will see those reasons and be thankful for the protection the rules give.
