Ipad Web Development
With all these new fancy gadgets that are replacing the use of web content. Where does it put web developers?
So now we have the iPad, and all these apple master pieces. In my opinion, the world of websites is coming to a complete downfall because these gadgets use applications, therefore creating a gap between the need for web content and Pad-content (applications). To cut a long story short, does the invention of all these gadgets mean that web developers are going to be hungry? I mean 5 years down the line we might get ripped by these gadgets. Unless if the school curriculum for web development includes hard-core concentration on application development as well. Can anyone see what I’m seeing?
So the iPad can look on a map … oh, it has to access a website to get the map, even if the app uses an API on the site.
It can access the database I support if I write an app for that (so I have a job supporting the app) … from the website the database is accessed through.
Web development is programming. Whether it’s a single piece of code that does it all or a front end/back end (a web app), it’s still programming. (I have a few web apps running that are VB6 code ported to PHP.)
A good program developer works on whatever is needed. Web development isn’t some little niche job that disappears f the web does. At least not if people do things correctly. A “web developer” who uses a program to do his “development” is going to be flipping burgers if the web disappears, but a programmer who develops websites will just learn a new language, or fall back on an old one, and keep working. (The guy who sits behind me maintains a huge library of COBOL apps. And I still use a flat database [it runs like lightning] that was written in Forth.)
