Why are people selling the Iphone 4 for more than 600 dollars on Craigslist?
I’m looking at the prices for the Iphone 4 at Apple and it’s $200-300, so why do people sell it on Craigslist for that much?
I’m somewhat of an anachronism when it comes to high-tech devices; is there something I’m missing?
What you are missing is the discount offered by AT&T or Apple when you sign up for a contract. The idea is to eat the cost in the phone, to get you to pay money over time. It’s an amazing, tried and true business model. People can get away with selling them for $600 on craigslist, because you then have the option to unlock the phone, and take it anywhere. This, in turn, justifies the cost of the phone, because you aren’t signing a contract with anyone, until you take it to a carrier. The person selling it paid full price (usually), so if it’s a new phone, they can get that full price back. Selling a used phone for $600, regardless of condition, is overcharging, and stupid.
