Iphone Software Update Server
I can’t use Windows Vista to update my iPhone?
iPhone is currently running on iOS 4.0 but I can’t update it to 4.1. Like last time when I tried to update my phone to 4.0, I had to use a mac because I can NEVER use my windows to update anything. Everytime i try to update on iTunes a message pops up saying
“the iphone cannot be updated at this time because the iphone software server could not be contacted or is temporarily unavailable.”
ALL THE TIME!! I am getting very frustrated please help.

it sounds like your Computer doesn’t want iTunes to get your firmware, It’s nothing big, its just your Computer is blocking the access of iTunes connecting to the server to download the firmware, You can fix this by checking your Antivirus Firewall and Windows Firewall, and check the exceptions and what is allowed and what is blocked.
Try doing the upgrade in Safe Mode [restart pc and press F8 Repeatedly]
You can also manually download the firmware its totally safe, and I use it when my iTunes is being Slow.
Heres the Steps on How to Manually Get it:
1. Go to http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
2. Select your iPhone Firmware
3. Download or Save to your Desktop
4. It should save or be downloaded as .ipsw firmware and shows a image like this http://www.blogsdna.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/Redsn0w-0.9.5-select-Firmware.png basically just an image of an Music symbol on a Lego piece lol
5. Open iTunes and go to your iPhone and Were it allows you to Restore your iPhone, Do This Hold Shift and Click That Restore Option and it Should open a Screen and now find your file and select it and it should start restoring but for this case upgrading for you 
6. If you are worried about loosing your Stuff, Just Do a Backup and Then once your iPhone is upgraded to the new firmware just do restore from backup, and it will restore all your music, or another way is you can download disk aid it comes with a 14 day free trail, and ti will back up your entire iPhone or just your music etc. go to http://www.digidna.net/products/diskaid
