Iphone Tv Remote Apps

is it possible for iphone apps to control things the way a remote can control tv, not just with wifi?
Just want to make it clear im not looking for a app to make my iphone into a remote im just wondering if apps can wirelessly control devices the way a remote controls a tv
Most TVs use infrared and the iPhone doesn’t have an infrared transmitter, so it’s not possible. If you have a high end TV or other setup with WiFi or Bluetooth the company may have or will release an app to control it.
