Iphone Vs Ipad Development
Touch Vs. iPad, for developing apps?
alright, so i want to start programming apps on one of Apple’s mobiles devices. which one should i get? will the older (2nd gen) touches be able to help with the development? do i need to get a 32gb iPad? will anything do? i don’t want or need an iPhone right now, so don’t go in to that…
anyway thanks
You don’t need any of the devices until you’ve actually written the application. Perhaps it might be nice to play with the devices and see other applications to get a feel for what is posisble, but you don’t need the actual devices until your ready to test.
You do need an Intel Mac to develop, so that’s your first purchse if you’ve not got one. Then you need the XCode tools from Apple ( http://developer.apple.com ). The development tools come with device emulators so you can see what the applications will look like, they don’t necessary give you a feel for how fast or fluid the application will run though and things like multi-touch may not be emulated very well.
You should also look at other platforms, Android and Windows Mobile both have free developer tools that are far more friendly than Apple’s, plus you can argue that software platforms have a bigger market than closed hardware platforms.
