Please help about using Wifi on phones?
I don’t know about this thing very well. My plan (T-Mobile) does not include 3G plan so I have to pay extra (a lot of money) to visit the internet or send emails and so on. So I do know that I can use wifi on some phones but don’t know if I have to pay (buy data plan) to use wifi or it’s free and I can just use it anytime, anywhere without extra? Or do we have to buy another plan in order to use wifi. And can we use wifi on Nokia E71, E72, or E73? (I and deciding between Blackberry Bold (9700) and Nokia E71, E72, or E73) What do you think?
Wifi as long as you have access to that network is free. Therefore, if you have a home network, and a wifi router, you will be able to use the wifi to connect to the internet, and should not be charged for that time. You are of course responsible for your Internet service plan, but this is not charged by the carrier.
If you are not near a wifi network, you may be best to get a data plan. T-Mobile is expected to be rolling a 150MB plan for $10. This might be an option if you are just doing doing email, web browsing (no streaming), and syncing.
As for wifi anywhere, you will have to have such access. And some places may charge you a fee for use of their wifi network. Therefore, if you use data services when not connected, you will be back to the 3G.
You should see an indicator on what type of connection you are using. Each device does things a little differently, but refer to the manual. Some devices may also allow you to disable cellular data. Contact T-Mobile for help on this, and if this is a feature of the phone.
