Optus Mobile Phones Sms

March 6th, 2010

I get the message “Can’t send a message to +614123456789″ (fake), but link to answer does not help!

I want to use SMS from Yahoo Messenger to mobile phones in Australia. But when I attempt this, the message window has a warning “Cannot send an SMS message to [fake no.] +61412345678.” There is a link “find out why” but the web page it links to has a number of FAQ questions but none that seem to address the problem.
I was able to log onto the Optus/Yahoo messenger connection at 2277. But that’s not the point. I want to send SMS from Yahoo Messenger to mobile phones.
Any ideas anyone?

Most likely, your friend’s phone number is on a mobile phone network carrier that Yahoo does not support. They have no real clear list of what mobile providers they support. They support most in the US, and I found a list on the Yahoo-Asia site (for Asian providers). You would have to ping Yahoo support for what ones they do support.

This is different than the messenger connection, which is actually web based (and uses data width on your mobile phone).

Sorry to say it is just one of those things they do not document well.
