Very odd wifi problem: laptop does not gain internet access on home wifi, but other devices does?
Hi everyone,
One hour ago, my windows 7 laptop cannot access to internet no more. It successfully connect to my home wifi but says “no internet access.”However, all my other devices, includes couple smart-phones and laptops works just fine on this network.
More strangely, this laptop works smoothly an open wifi (no password requires)
I have tried to release/renew IP, wifi troubleshooting, turn off firewall, and yes, a lot of reboots. Since last successful connection on private wifi, no software/update/backup were performed. I am quite confused now.
ANY suggestion well be appreciated.
I can’t say exactly what your issue is, but here’s some ideas to narrow down the problem.
Open up command prompt and type ipconfig, and then check what ip you have.
If it doesn’t show a default gateway and doesn’t have a 192.168.###.### address, it’s likely not communicating with the router.
If it DOES have a default gateway and a 192.168 address, try pinging the default gateway.
If you can ping the default gateway, try doing ping www.google.com.
If it gets destination host unreachable, try pinging it on another device and copy and paste the ip address.
If it works after pasting in the Ip address, try doing ipconfig /flushdns, and if that doesn’t work, use a static dns server like 8.8.8.8
If none of that works, you can try some stuff like changing the channel the router broadcasts on, different things like this.
-Edit- Also, try connecting to another router to isolate the issue to the router, or the laptop.
